There are hardly a few people in this world who do not know Harry Potter and thus the Dark Lord (Voldemort). J.K.Rowling gave the current generation an amazing world of Wizardry! However, the books and movies wouldn’t have been what it is without a truly amazing, enigmatic and powerful character - Lord Voldemort or how we all call him – The Dark Lord! Very few of those who have seen the movies were not awed by the brilliant acting of Ralph Fiennes as Tom Marvolo Riddle (Voldemort).Ralph was born on 22nd December 1962 in Suffolk, England. A noted Shakespeare interpreter, he first achieved success onstage at the Royal National Theatre. He made his film debut as Heathcliff in Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights (1992). He gained international recognition for his portrayal of an amoral Nazi concentration camp commandant Amon Goeth in Schindler’s List (1993).
Since then, he has been in a number of notable films including Strange Days (1995), Oscar and Lucinda (1997), Maid in Manhattan (2002), The Hurt Locker (2008), Clash of the Titans (2010), The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), eightetc. He also appears in the James Bond series as M since Skyfall (2012).
He made his directorial debut with his film adaptation of Shakespeare's Coriolanus (2011), in which he also played the title character. He won a Tony Award for playing Prince Hamlet on Broadway. He recently appeared on large screen as Laurence Laurentz in Hail, Caesar! (2016).
Since 1999, Fiennes has served as an ambassador for UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) United Kingdom and has done work in India, Kyrgyzstan, Uganda and Romania. He is the eighth cousin of Charles, Prince of Wales.
This 1st class stamp of Lord Voldemort was released in 2011 in the ‘Magical Realms’ collection of stamps honoring Britain’s best-loved fantasy characters and is a part of a set of eight stamps by United Kingdom Royal Mail.
