2016-11-15 Tue
After the Second World War, the cold war continued between USA and USSR.The USA launched a Space Shuttle Program in 1977, USSR fearing this would be used as a weapon. It launched its own Buran Space Shuttle Program. This project is considered as one of the most largest and expensive space programs in the Soviet history. It is also said that it is a copy of USA space shuttle but not an exact copy.
The word ‘Buran’ in Russian means the ‘snowstorm’. Do you wonder why they named Buran?
The Buran Spacecraft made an unmanned space flight on November 15, 1988.
To mark this history various countries like Bhutan, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Cuba, Mongolia, etc have issued stamps on Buran space shuttle.
Bhutan issued a beautiful miniature sheet having the face value of 80 Ngultrum where it depicts the Buran space shuttle in the space.
