2016-11-15 Tue
Quite often compared with Mahatma Gandhi, Vinoba Bhave was born in a Brahmin Family on 11th September 1895. He had a great future vision to bring change in India. He believed in a peaceful revolt. He had highlighted great talks from Bhagwad Gita and believed that man should make his action pure and attain the highest state.
He stands as a symbol of a ‘perfect man’ where he is spiritual but at the same time has a wide open vision for the country. He worked for the betterment of the backward class.
Bhoodan (Gift of Land), Sampattidan (Gift of Wealth), Jeevadan (Gift of Life) were the important movements led by Vinoba Bhave.
To pay tribute to this great leader, India post issued a commemorative stamp of 50 Paisa in 1983. It has a smiling portrait of Vinoba with his name below in Hindi and English. Isn’t it a cheerful stamp?
On both the side of the stamp, there is an orange, white and green strip which represents the Indian flag.
He passed away on 15th November 1982. He was posthumously honored with the Bharat Ratna Award in 1984.
S. Radhakrishnan commented on him, "Indeed his life represents a harmonious blend of learning, spiritual perception and compassion for the lowly and the lost."
Let’s walk on his path and see the bright India!
