Baseball Player Bobby Thomson on Postage Stamp

Bobby Thomson was a famous baseball player who was known popularly as “Flying Scot”. He was born on 25th October 1923, in Glasgow, Scotland and grew up in New York. From 1942 to 1945 he served the United States Army Air Forces. He debuted at the League level on 9th September 1946, with the New York Giants of the National League, and performed brilliantly.In 15 major league seasons, he scored 264 home runs and 1,026 runs. He was featured on a postage stamp issued on 26th May 1999. The stamp features him at home plate, hitting the ball into the left field seats. In a game against the Brooklyn Dodgers, Thomson hit a three-run home run known as the “Shot Heard ’Round the World” aiding the team’s win and a secured spot in the World Series.
Thomson died 16th August 2010 at the age of 86.
