Sadiqi of Tipu Sultan Sold For 4, 80,000

Tipu Sultan was the great ruler of Mysore. He had made a number of administrative changes during his reign which can be seen on his coinage. He had Placed AH (Anno Hijri) date on his coin which was later replaced by AM (Mauludi era) during his 5th regnal year.He had also given a different name to all denomination he had issued. All the gold and silver coins were named after the names of Muhammadan saints, Khilafas, and imams. And his copper coins had the name of planets for eg:- ‘Paisa’ is also known as ‘Zohra’, ‘ Zohra’ is the Persian name of Planet ‘Venus’; ‘Half-Paisa’ is also known as ‘Behram’, ‘Behram’ is Persian name of Planet ‘Mars’, ‘Quarter-Paisa’ is also known as ‘Akhtar’, ‘Akhtar’ is the word for star.
His gold ‘Double Pagoda’ were also known as ‘Siddiqui’, ‘Siddiqui’ is derived from the word ‘Abu Bakr Sadiq’ who was the first Muslim caliph.
One of his Double Pagoda which weighs around 6.81gm, minted in Pattan was sold for INR 4, 80,000 at Todywalla Auction held in Hyderabad on 30th July 2011.
The obverse of the coin read as “Muhammad Ahmad Din Dar Jahan Ast Raushan Ze Fatah Haider He Sadiqi Zarb Pattan Saal Sata Sanah 1218” and the reverse of the coin says “Huwa As-Saltan Al-Waheed Al-adil Tarikh-i-Saal Sakh Seum Bahari Sanah 8 Julus”
