The second coin titled “Amade” of the 3 coin-set release of the “Amadeus Mozart, A Life in Three Acts” will be issued by Austrian Mint today on May 11, 2016.Designed and engraved by Austrian Mint engraver Herbert Waehner, the obverse of the coin is based on a portrait painted by Barbara Krafft in 1819. It depicts a ¾-portrait of Mozart dressed in an elaborately embroidered jacket over one of his signature ruffled shirts. The second name of Mozart’s three-part signature, “Amade”, is depicted overlaid on his right shoulder. It also bears inscriptions ‘20 euros’, “Republik Österreich” and ‘2016’.
The reverse of the coin, designed and engraved by mint engraver Helmut Andexlinger, depicts a scene from the opera, Don Giovanni which premiered in Prague in 1787. This opera is about a young man, a murderer, and one who had little respect for the social mores of the time.
The next in line is “Mozart: The Legend” which will be issued on 7th September 2016.
