On 5th April, The Swiss central bank unveiled its new 50 franc note. The artistic note comes with a security strip that displays numbers upon tilting. The design shows the Alps peaks in Switzerland which turn colourful if you look at the note the right way. Little Swiss crosses are depicted in the number 50. It will be the highest denomination notes in the world which is more than a thousand U.S. dollars at today’s exchange rate. The designer, Manuela Pfrunder states “the wind dominates the narrative of the 50-franc note.” Next in line is the 20 franc note which will be released in 2017. The theme of its design is light.
New designs for high denomination notes are being introduced for reducing counterfeiting activities. European Central Bank President Mario Draghi said that they are considering a design change for the 500 euro note. The 1,000 franc note is used heavily in Switzerland and hence authorities say that they have no plans for withdrawing the same.
