The 13th President of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission, Shankaran Kutty also known as Rangnathananda died today on 25th April 2005.He was born on 15th December 1908 in a village called Trikkur in Kerala. Rangnathananda was deeply inspired by the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda. In 1988 he was elected vice president of Ramakrishna Math and Mission and in 1988 he became President.
Swami Ranganathanandji was a constant traveler. From 1973 to 1986 he undertook annual tours to the US, Europe, and Australia spreading the message of Vedanta. He is noted for his contributions that bridge western science and Vedantic spirituality.
In 2000 he was chosen for the Padma Vibhushan award by the Government of India. In 1985 he was honored with the first Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration.
India Post released a postage stamp in the denomination of Rs 5 to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Swami Ranganathananda, in 2008.
