Andorra celebrated 20 years of membership in the Council of Europe on November 10th 2014. A special circulating commemorative €2 coin was issued in February 2016 to mark this event.

The Council of Europe is a regional intergovernmental organization which promotes human rights, democracy, and the rule of law in its 47 member states, covering 820 million citizens.

The obverse depicts the coat of arms of Andorra with the inscription ‘20’ where the zero represents the Council of Europe’s flag. Other inscriptions include ‘ANDORRA’, ‘AL CONSELL D’EUROPA’ and ‘2014’. The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag. The common reverse shows a map of the European Union.
