The popular effigy of Queen Elizabeth seen on Australian Coins is going to be replaced by a new one in 2019. The current one was designed by Ian Rank-Broadley and was introduced in 1998. It’s the fifth effigy of the Queen on Australian coins. The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy is known for its high level of realism. The earlier effigies were designed by artists like Mary Gillick, Arnold Machin OBE RA, Raphael Maklouf, and Vladimir Gottwald. The latest sixth effigy is designed by Jody Clark and was revealed in September 2018. Coins featuring the latest design would enter circulation in 2019. A special set of six gold and fine silver Proof coins has been released to commemorate the end of the fifth effigy by Ian Rank-Broadley. Officials stated that ever since the design was introduced 20 years ago, a lot of innovative production techniques have been introduced like 3D modelling software and colour printed coins.
50 sets of gold coins and 1000 sets of silver coins are available for purchase. The special set of six gold coins can be purchased for $9,995.00 AUD, while the silver set can be bought for $350.00 AUD. Every set is packaged in a presentation case with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
