The United States of America had issued this one dollar commemorative coin to honour Christopher Columbus on its 500 Anniversary of the discovery of America.Christopher Columbus was born in the year 1451 in Genoa. He was an Italian explorer who is best known for the discovery of America. Christopher Columbus started his career as traders which help him to learn how to make the map and Navigation Ships. Later he also made three ships – the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. One of his main objectives was to sail to the west until he reaches Asia (the Indies, especially India) which was very rich in gold, pearls, and spices.
The obverse of this coin had a full-length portrait of Christopher Columbus holding a banner in his right hand, and a scroll in his left hand. He is standing next to the globe atop a pedestal to his left. The background displays three sailing vessels. The reverse of this coin depicts the image of Santa Maria.
