Canada Post has issued a new stamp remembering the Women’s Suffrage, on the occasion of its 100th year. The Women’s Suffrage stands for the right of women to vote and to stand for electoral office. Struggle to secure the vote was in advance during the First World War when women were often the only support of the family. Hence, the demand for equality came forward.
This commemorative stamp issued by Canada Post along with a First Day Cover pays tribute to the women who fought and won the right to vote, which changed the course of history and society of the world.
Designed by Tétro, the commemorative stamp is illustrated in black and gold colours depicting the Venusian symbol of femininity as the letters “O” and “T” in the word Vote. Vertical text in English and French on the right highlights the women’s suffrage.
The First Day Cover features the portrait of Nellie McClung – one of the most important figures associated with the suffrage, set over the petition to the Government. On the bottom is a black and gold banner reading “Votes for Women”.
