Handicrafts of India Featured on Stamps

India Post issued four unique stamps in November 2002 on the theme of Handicrafts of India. The stamp set featured four different types of distinct crafts of India.Unique to the state of Assam and other North Eastern Region, Cane and Bamboo handicrafts are one of the famous Handicrafts on India.
Originated in Rajasthan, Thewa is a special art of jewellery making which involves embossing gold sheet on molten glass.
From the state of Gujarat, Patola sari is selected handicraft to feature on one of the stamps of the state. The Patola Saris are woven saris usually made from rich silk.
Dhokra Art is a traditional art of Jharkhand and the neighbouring states. It is basically a brass-work done by the Malhore castes of the state. Dhokra horses, elephants, peacocks, owls, religious images, measuring bowls, and lamp caskets etc., are highly appreciated in the markets of India as well as outside India.
The stamps featuring the images of the handicrafts come with the value of Rs.5 each.
