Austria is an important country in the European Continent. This beautiful tourist place has also witnessed several significant historical events. Austria offers wide philatelic material for the collectors. One of the curious stamps of Austria is “Dalai Lama Not Issued Stamp.”

Issued in the year 2005, this stamp is one of the greatest modern Philatelic Rarities. Post Austria issued a 1.25 Euro stamp to commemorate the 70th Birthday of this great Tibetan Saint. However, when the preliminary work of the design of the stamp was completed this stamp was withdrawn by the Austrian postal services because of political pressure from China.

Somehow, the collectors managed to get a hold on few stamps which have now become a rarity. Some thirty have survived so far and are considered to be one of the greatest philatelic collectables. This bright stamp shows a smiling portrait of Dalai Lama with the inscription His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the top.

A pane of Dalai Lama stamp has been offered by Felzmann Action has is estimated to fetch more than 4,660 USD.
