Gold Tanka of Muizz Al-Din Kaiqubad was sold for INR 32,000

This gold tanka was issued by Muizz Al-Din Kaiqubad, who had ruled Delhi Sultanate from 1287 to 1290 CE. He was the son of Bughra Khan; an independent sultan of Bengal. Muizz Al-Din Kaiqubad was the tenth ruler of Mamluk Dynasty (Slave Dynasty).

Muizz Al-Din Kaiqubas had issued coins in gold, silver and copper. Gold and silver coins issued by him were minted in Hadrat Delhi. Silver coins issued by him like One-Third, One-Sixth and One-Twelfth Tanka are rare. In billon coin, he issued only three-gani bilingual coin.

This very rare gold tanka was sold for INR 32,000 at Todywalla Auction held in Mumbai on 8th Nov 2008. The obverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Al-Sultan Al-Azam Muizz Al-Dunya Wa Al-Din Abul Muzaffar Kaiqubad Al-Sultan’. The reverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Al-Imam Legend with Name of Khalif Al Mustasim’ mint name and date in the margin.
