Rare Banknotes of Argentina to be Auctioned in August

2018-06-20 Wed

Stack’s Bowers Galleries is going to offer a scarce and almost an unseen collection of Argentinean paper money in August at the ANA World’s Fair of Money. The colelction is put together by Robert J. Bauman who has also written a book named The Paper Money of Argentina.

Many of the notes from this collection are Pick plate notes. They were all discovered or were almost impossible to find. The Pick Catalog has been provided with images in such cases.

The Banco de Buenos Ayres 1823 1 Peso note from the collection is extremely rare and only one note of this type is known. It is so rare that it’s unknown even in Argentina. The other three known notes in this series are showcased in museums. Other highlights from the collection include High-value Rosas notes like a 50 Pesos Pick S393, a 100 Pesos S398 note and another one in specimen form. Most of these Rosas notes were redeemed, which is why they are extremely rare.

Custom interest-bearing notes issued by Banco de la Provincia de Buenos Ayres in 1865 are also a part of the collection. They were used in Confederacion Argentina from 1855 to 1861 and featured the title Republica Argentina for the first time in the history of Argentinean banknotes.

Other notes like 10 Pesos Fuertes, and a 20 Pesos Fuertes Remainder will also be offered in the August 2018 Auctions.
