Second India South Africa Joint Issue

India Post and South Africa Post are collaborating again after 23 years. On 7th June 2018, India and South Africa released a joint stamp issue to commemorate 20 years of strategic partnership between both the countries. The stamps depict thinkers of India and South Africa Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay and Oliver Tambo.

Stamp with Rs. 5 denomination depicts Oliver Tambo. He was born on October 25, 1917, in Bizana, South Africa. Oliver Tambo was the acting president of the African National Congress, the South African anti-apartheid political party. Oliver Tambo opened the first black law firm in the country with Nelson Mandela.

The other stamp with the denomination of Rs 25 depicts Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay. Born on September 25, 1916, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay was an RSS thinker and co-founder of the political party Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the forerunner of Bharatiya Janata Party. He was known for his political philosophy Integral Humanism.

This issue is honouring two celebrity’s anniversary: the birth centenary of the South African Oliver Reginald Tambo and birth centenary and 50th year of death anniversary of the Indian Deendayal Upadhyaya.
