World Ocean Day

The United Nations General Assembly declared 8th June from 2009 as the World Ocean Day in 2008 meeting. In 1992, many countries with United Nation celebrated ocean day on the conference on environment and development held in Rio de Janerio, after twenty years it was made official.

This day is celebrated to spread awareness and remind people about the major role Ocean play in sustaining life and ecosystems on earth. The ocean is considered a vital component to the planet as it provides 80 per cent oxygen we breathe. It is essential for the world population to be aware of the impact on ocean due to human activities endangering the various wildlife, tourism and fisheries.
