Three arched hill is a fairly ancient symbol which used to appear in the ancient coinage of India. The Three arched hill symbol was initiated in the coins of the Maurya Empire (3rd to 2nd Century BC). Later it also appeared in the coins of Taxila, Satavahanas, Western Kshatrapas, Kunindas, Traikutaka, Vidarbha Janapadas.Three arched hill symbol also come is certain variants in Indian coinage like Three arched hill, Three arched hill with a crescent above, Six arched hill, In the coins of Western Kshatrapas Three arched hill appears with a river flowing below and a crescent moon to the left and sun to the right.
Three arched hill is generally considered as Buddhist Chaitya symbol or a Stupa.
