The legendary city of Atlantis was described in the Greek philosophy of Plato around 429 to 437 BCE. The story of this advance and wealthy city wove a fascinating web of adventure for the historian and history fanatics. According to Plato, Atlantis was engulfed by the volcanic eruption and immersed in the sea. The whereabouts of the Atlantic is a mystery till date and without any archaeological evidence or considerable source it has become a source of imagination for the humans - for two millennia.

The existence of Atlantis has been questioned numerous times. It has been connected to Minoan civilization and to the disaster of Thera on Santorini in the Aegean. Some also believed that Atlantis was the imagination of Plato, which was inspired by the wealth of his own city, Athena.

Plato first discussed Atlantis in Timaeus, one of his later works. Atlantis’s story again surfaced with more details in the Critias, yet another of Plato's work. In this Plato described the strength of Atlantis, its natural beauty, its architecture, the strength of its armed forces, its cultural and religious beliefs, etc.

It is hard to explain, whether the story of Atlantis is a reality or just a myth. The mystery surrounds it does peaks the curious nature of humans. Atlantis is one of the greatest mysteries of all time.
