Footballer T Ao Honoured on Indian Stamps

A commemorative postage stamp was released on 27th January by India Post in honour of India’s football captain Dr. Talimeren Ao on his 100th Birth Anniversary year.Ao was the captain of Indian football team during 1948 London Olympics. He also played for the local Indian club Mohun Bagan in the 1940s.He promoted football among the general public in India, especially in Assam. Another interesting fact is that Ao was not just a footballer, but also an assistant civil surgeon.
He was born on 28th January 1918, in the then Naga Hills region of Assam, Ao mostly played in the centre-half position.
The ceremony took place at Sports Authority of India (SAI) complex playground, Paltan Bazar, Guwahati.
