Russia Introduces Phone App to Detect Counterfeit Notes
2018-02-13 Tue
Russian coins and banknotes are produced by a state entity called Goznak. The organisation released a phone app that can help differentiate between authentic new 200- and 2,000-ruble notes and their fake-counterparts.“Banknotes 2017” is the name of the application which uses the video camera of mobile devices to operate. If the app identifies that the notes are authentic, a green message is flashed which translates to “Authenticity signs detected.” However, only certain security features are scanned and not all of them.
Generic information about the banknotes like design descriptions and technical details can also be obtained from the application. The app went live for downloads on AppStore and GooglePlay on 18th January.
