Proposed Bubble Tea Design for New Taiwanese Banknote Gets Mixed Reactions
2018-02-10 Sat
An online design competition is being organised by former DPP legislator Gao Jyh-peng, to select the final designs for Taiwan’s new NT$ 50 banknotes. Voting for the competition began on 2nd February and it will go on till 25th February. One of the proposed designs features Taiwan’s famous bubble milk tea. Night market snacks and drink shops are very popular in Taiwan. Some think that the design is very creative, while there are many others who think that it is a bit too kiddish to appear on banknotes.
A five banknote set featuring native wildlife of Taiwan, and another one depicting Taipei 101 building are the current leaders in terms of votes.
