Latvian Coin Celebrates 100th Anniversary of Baltic States

A 2 euro commemorative coin was released by the Bank of Latvia on 31st January 2018 to celebrate 100th Anniversary of the Baltic States and the 100th anniversary of re-establishment of the Lithuanian statehood. Citizens were asked to vote online to select among six coin designs, two entries each from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. The winning design represents Unity of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia for defending their independence. It also symbolises their common past, present and future.The design on the national side features fates of the three Baltic sisters that come together. Inscription includes “LATVIJA” (“LIETUVA” and “EESTI” on the coins issued by the Bank of Lithuania and Bank of Estonia, respectively). The edge inscription reads “DIEVS * SV?T? * LATVIJU *”. The other side features the nominal value, material, and size.
The coin is minted by UAB Lithuanian Mint. 0.5 million coins have been circulated through banks. 5,000 coins of Brilliant Uncirculated quality in a special packaging can be purchased for 7.30 euro each. 7,000 circulation coin sets can also be purchased for 25.00 euro each.
