Barbados Postal Service Pays a Sweet Tribute to Centenarians

2018-02-01 Thu

Have you ever dreamt of living for 100 years? Many would even want to live longer while some others would want to keep it nice and short. Barbados Postal Service thought of making the country’s most senior citizens feel special by releasing a limited edition set of 27 postage stamps featuring photographs of people who have lived for 100 years or more, called Centenarians of Barbados on 8th December 2016. It is also the largest stamp issue ever released by Barbados.

Some of the people depicted on these stamps have died and some are still alive. Twenty of them were 100 years old at the time of printing, while the remaining seven are aged between 105 and 110.

Miss Elaine Ometa Walkes was born in 1914 and celebrated her 104th birthday on 16th January 2018. Her relatives say that she is still sharp and witty. Each stamp is priced at 65 cents. They were available for three months from Barbados’ public post offices. However, they are out of stock currently.
