Late Heritage cataloguer Dr. Jon Amato presented a beautiful collection of type coins in collector grades at Heritage Auctions that was held from 3rd January to 8th January in conjunction with the FUN convention in Tampa. The amazing set was carefully researched and put together.A 1797 Draped Bust half dollar was sold for $40,800. Dr. Amato’s 2012 reference named The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796–1797 talks in details about all known examples. The Overton 102 variety of a 1797 Draped Bust half dollar was selected for representing the type in his collection. The type is listed as Amato 527 in his book.
The coin comes with a moderate mark midway, a horizontal pin-scratch, two Minor rim dings and a faint vertical staple scratch.
The collector bought the coin from Northeast Numismatics in April 1996. The rare half dollar, graded Fine 12 by ANACS comes in an early generation, small-sized ANACS holder.
