Some coins have inherent holes while others are holed for suspension. There are other damaged coins as well which have holes on them. Market value of holed coins depends on a lot of factors. Holed coins caused due to damage have the least value of all. Many holed coins were sold by Stack’s Bowers Galleries on 10th November 2017 during the Whitman Baltimore Expo. A “1799” (1800) Washington Funeral Urn Medal, White Metal, graded AU-55 was sold for $8,100. The Washington Funeral Urn medals are more popular among the earlier American issues. Most of these medals are originally pierced for suspension which is why collectors don’t mind buying them. Though they are dated1799, they were actually produced in 1800. They were sold as tributes to the memory of George Washington, who died on 14th December 1799. The lustrous medal has a diameter of 30 mm. It is considered to be the most pleasing example of its type.
