The Perth Mint released 5,000 new 99.99% pure silver Proof 31.107 grams coins in its 2018 Opal Lunar Series featuring the Lunar dog to celebrate the Year of the Dog. The coin is issued as legal tender.The inner panel of the reverse design features a detailed dog in pure Australia opal. Designs of leaves and flowers are featured on the outer panel. Other inscriptions include YEAR OF THE DOG, 2018 year-date and ‘P’ mintmark. The obverse features the common portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and the denomination. The coin comes in a display case with a light, which turns on upon opening. It also comes along with an illustrated shipper and a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
