Royal mint’s Special Coins for 2018

The Royal mail is going to release four special coins this year. A 50p coin celebrates the 100th anniversary of women over 30 getting the right to vote through Representation of the People Act, the second one is a £2 coin commemorating 100th anniversary of the First World War Armistice, the third is a £2 coin celebrating 200 years of Mary Shelley’s famous Frankenstein which was published anonymously in 1818, the fourth is a £2 coin celebrating the 100th anniversary of Royal Air Force which was established in April 1918.The second coin features a quote from Wilfred Owen’s poem Strange Meeting – ‘the truth untold, the pity of war’. Owen was not known during his lifetime and wrote several poems in 1917 and 1918. The poems were published after his death when he was just 25 years old. He died during a British attack on the German-held Sambre Canal on the Western Front on 4th November 1918, one week before the signing of the Armistice.
