2012 Humiliating Fake Swedish Coin makes a Reappearance

2016-02-13 Sat

A fake Swedish coin makes a second grand entry, this time though, accidently. In 2012, a fake coin mocking the Swedish king was fabricated by a Swede whose arrival at work was delayed by public celebrations for the monarch’s 65th birthday.

The coins looked so real back then that their existence was not discovered until they were already in circulation. The fake coin carried the text: "King Carl XVI Gustaf – Our King the Whore" instead of "King Carl XVI Gustaf – Sweden’s King", referring to numerous alleged sex scandals against the royal family.

When everyone had almost forgotten about his humiliating incident, on Thursday, these fake coins were again the talk of the town when a photo of it was accidentally linked to a story about Swedish interest rates.

Swedish Tweeps spotted the funny mistake, but then was made viral by social media enthusiasts and some of the Nordic country's news websites.
