Tanka of Gujarat Sultanate sold for INR 60,000

This gold tanka issued by Shams-Al-Din Muzaffar II in the Hijri year 929, weighs around 11.4g and was sold for INR 60,000 in Classical Numismatic Gallery Auction held on 15th December 2017.Shams Al-Din Muzaffar II (717-932; AD 1511-1525) was Sultan of Gujarat. He succeeded Nasir Al-Din Mahmud I.
One of the main reforms during his reign was the introduction of 64 rati standards for silver issues which weigh around 7.0-7.2 grams. He has issued coins in gold, silver, and copper.
The obverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘al-mu 'ayyad bi-ta 'yid al-rahman shams al-dunya wa 'l din abu 'l nasr’ within a double scalloped circle. The reverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Muzaffar Shah bin Mahmud Shah al-sultan, AH 929’ within a double scalloped circle.
