New Coloured South African Coins Celebrate Flora and Fauna

South African Mint’s second set of four coloured coins highlights the beauty and diversity of Cape West Coast Biosphere Reserve.Each coin costs R895 and are available separately or as a limited edition set. Two R10 sterling silver coins highlight fauna like the blue crane and the Caspian tern while two R5 sterling-silver one-ounce coins highlight flora like the starfish lily and yellow wine cup. The scientific Latin names of each species are mentioned in the coins.
The reverse designs are created by JA Geldenhuys’s. The common obverse designed by L Guerra depicts a map of South Africa indicating the location of the Cape West Coast Biosphere Reserve‚ north of Cape Town. Other inscriptions include SOUTH AFRICA and 2017.
