329 archaeological coins were seized from an Egyptian passenger who was trying to smuggle them to France. The passenger was busted at Cairo International Airport by archaeological unit.Thirteen coins from the Byzantine era, 157 coins belonging to the times of Ptolemy IV, Ptolemy V and Ptolemy VI of the Greco-Roman era were found. Other coins were from the Roman era and featured different emperors. Inscriptions and imagery on some coins were unclear as they were not in a great condition and needed to be restored as soon as possible.
After a legal claim was filed against the smuggler, the coins were transferred to an Antiquities Ministry store.
