2018 Native American $1 Coin Reverse Design

The reverse design of the 2018 Native American $1 Coin honouring the legendary sportsman Jim Thorpe was announced. Products with this coin will be released on 15th February 2018.The reverse features Jim Thorpe along with elements which highlight his football and Olympic achievements. Inscriptions include JIM THORPE, WA-THO-HUK (Thorpe’s Sac and Fox tribe name), UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and $1.
The common obverse design features a Sacagawea carrying her infant son, Jean Baptiste. Inscriptions include LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST. The year, mint mark, and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” are on the coin’s edge.
The Native American $1 Coin Program honours contributions made by Native American tribes and other Native Americans to the history and development of the country. As per the law, a coin must be released every year featuring an image which conveys this message.
