Popularly known as 'Sher-e-Mysore', Tipu Sultan was the eldest son of Sultan Hyder Ali of Mysore.Born on 20th November 1750, Tipu Sultan was a great scholar, poet, and soldier who ruled the Kingdom of Mysore with his father until the latter’s death in 1782. During his reign, he had introduced a number of Administrative innovations, including his coinage and a new calendar system known as ‘Mauludi year’.
Tipu Sultan is considered as one of the powerful rulers of India. The legendary ruler played a major role in keeping the British forces away from South India.
This Silver double rupee also known as Haidari was estimated for INR 3,00,000-4,00,000 at Classical Numismatic Gallery Auction. The obverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Ahmad Din Dar Janan Ast Raushan Ze Fateh Haider He Zarb Pattan Saal-i-Dalv-Sanah 1200 Hijri. The reverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Huwa As-Sultan Al-Waheed Al-Adil Seum Bahari Saal Dalv Sanah 4 Julus’.
