A U.S. postage stamp will be released in 2018 honouring the British rock legend – John Lennon. The stamp will belong to the Music Icon series. Other music legends like Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, and Lydia Mendoza have also been commemorated on stamps.

John Lennon was born in Liverpool but later settled in New York City with wife and musical collaborator Yoko Ono. He died on 8th December 1980 at the age of 40. The stamp features a picture of him wearing his favourite glasses along with his signature and a peace symbol. The exact date and time for the official stamp launch has not yet been revealed.

The Beatles has been honoured with a 1999 stamp depicting the classic Yellow Submarine from the Beatles animated movie and soundtrack. It belonged to Celebrate the Century series. The new stamp is the first US stamp to feature one of the Beatles members. Britain’s Royal Mail has also honoured Beatles on their 2007 stamp.
