BSP Asked to Adopt Indicators on Banknotes for the Blind
2017-11-06 Mon
Nueva Vizcaya Rep. Luisa Lloren Cuaresma is asking the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) to adopt currency indicators to help the visually impaired identify banknotes. The Philippines is a part of UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPDs), which works towards human rights and fundamental freedom of everyone with disabilities. She stated that the PWD sector is neglected a lot in the country even after many laws were amended. As per the new laws, the government has to set up a special agency for disabled people for their rehabilitation, self-development, and self-reliance etc. There were 1.44-million PWDs in Philippines as of 2010.
