525th Anniversary of Columbus’ Santa Maria Expedition Celebrated on Latest Coins from Rwanda

Brilliant Uncirculated .999 fine silver 50-franc coins celebrating the 525th anniversary of Columbus’ expedition that led to the American discovery by Santa Maria has been released through a German company. It is the first coin of the “Nautical Ounce” series.The obverse features a sailing Santa Maria and a compass in the background. Other inscriptions include NAUTICAL OUNCE, 2017, the purity, other nautical instruments and SANTA MARIA. The official seal of Rwanda and denomination - 50 francs is featured on the reverse.
The coins will be struck within a limited minting period from August 2017 to March 2018. The final mintage numbers will be revealed after this time period. Every coin comes in a plastic case and is linked in 10-coin sheets. 1,000 pieces of the Proof version and 100 pieces of Proof 1-ounce gold coins are already sold out. The 1-ounce silver bullion coin is being offered by APMEX for almost 75 percent more than precious metal price, based on the order size and payment method.
