It portrays India’s rich heritage apart from scientific and architectural wonders along with it; it is also a representation of immense devotion. The 13th century Konark temple, also known as the Black Pagoda is the best example to understand the actual phase of Indian heritage.Konark consists of many magnificent artistic wonders; the elephant on its entrance is one of the most fascinating structures of this massive specimen. Well-known as the elephant of Konark, it is the symbol of wealth which is depicted stamping a human. This may also represent the protector of the temple.
Konark is devoted to the sun god; it is constructed in the form of a chariot. It belongs to the Rekha Deula type of architecture which is very popular in Orissa. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared it as a world heritage site in 1984. It belongs to the golden triangle of Puri and Bhubaneshwar temples.
