Coins to Look Out for at Stack’s Bowers November Auction
2017-10-11 Wed
Selected items from the Cardinal Collection Educational Foundation, the Alexander and Murray Hill Collections, selection of Early American coinage along with material from the Colonial Coin Collectors Club will be offered by Stack’s Bowers at the November 2017 Official Auction of the Whitman Coins & Collectibles Baltimore Expo.Another highlight is a lustrous 1795 half cent struck using Cohen-2a dies featuring rich mahogany-bronze patina and steel-blue toning. One of the experts believes that this coin is similar to the John Mills-David Wilson example and ranked seventh in his census. Other experts have debated on this fact though. Nevertheless, the offered coin is in the mid-range of the condition census almost reaching Mint State quality.
Apart from an old mark on the right obverse field, the surfaces are smooth. The denticles are well-centred and the main elements are well-defined. The “punctuation” on the date is bold and has die chips around it.
Other highlights include a Mint State 1792 Silver Center cent from the Cardinal Collection Educational Foundation and a Choice Mint State 1796 Stars quarter eagle from the Murray Hill Collection.
