Bengal Sultanate was founded by Shamsuddin Ilyas Shah in the year 1352 AD. Nasir Al-Din Nusrat Shah was Sultan of Bengal from 1519 AD -1531 AD (925AH -938AH). He was the son of Alauddin Husain Shah. He was enthroned after his father’s death.Nasir Al-Din Nusrat Shah issued coins in gold and silver. His coins are of rich quality as those of his father. The legends on his coins are spread over both the sides. There is no religious expression on his coins apart from ‘Khallada Allah Mulkahu’. However, in some coins, only ‘Khallada Mulkahu’ is found. Dates written on his coins are difficult to interpret in many cases.
This very rare gold tanka which weighs around 10.7g, minted in ‘Arsah’ was sold for INR 1, 25,000 at Todywalla Auction. The obverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Al-Sultan Bin Al-Sultan Nasir Al-Dunya Wa’l Din Abul Muzaffar’. The reverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Nusrat Shah Al-Sultan Bin Hussain Shah Al-Sultan Al-Husainai Khallada Allah Mulkahu’.
