100th Anniversary of Battle of Vimy Ridge Remembered on Latest Canadian Coins

A 2$ commemorative circulation coin remembering Canadians who laid down their lives at the Battle of Vimy Ridge, 100 years ago was revealed by Royal Canadian mint at The Military Museums in Calgary. This battle led to Allied victory, putting an end to First World War.

Four divisions of the Canadian Corps fought together for the first time during this battle. It was known for ingenuity, bravery and sacrifice which led to the most important victory of the First World War. The coin rightly honours all those brave men who sacrificed their lives in this battle.

The reverse features the Vimy Memorial along with a First World War soldier and a veteran. The word “Vimy” appears between the soldier and veteran. The obverse features the Susanna Blunt effigy of Queen Elizabeth.

Five million coins are now in general circulation. Other special products offered include a special wrap roll of 25 two-dollar circulation coins and a ¼ oz. fine silver collector coin with a $3 denomination. It features the sculpture “Canada Bereft” which is placed at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial.
