Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site Could Be Renamed Soon

2017-10-07 Sat

The Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site in Cornish, New Hampshire, is soon going to be renamed Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park. The famous sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens who died in 1907 created most of his popular coin and medallic works here. Nothing except signage, maps and hand-outs would be changed after the name-change. The new name follows the standards used by the National Park Service while celebrating life and works of Augustus Saint-Gaudens.

Officials believe that National Park System units assigned as national historical parks have diverse historical resources and interpretive themes over non-contiguous lands. They also stated that the word “site” is used for a stand-alone structure. Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site was established in 1965, honouring one of the greatest American sculptors, who created designs for the gold $10 and $20 coins introduced in 1907.
