The Reserve Bank of Australia will be showcasing features of the new $10 banknote at the Mary Gilmore Festival in Crookwell on 28th October. Visitors of the festival will get a chance to learn about the latest security features from the Reserve Bank’s information stall.Famous Australian writers, Dame Mary Gilmore and AB ‘Banjo’ Paterson are depicted on the new $10 bill. The portrait of Mary Gilmore used on the note is inspired by a photograph taken in 1900.
The new security features and design elements beautifully portray the work of these two writers. The clear window depicts a reversing ‘10’ and showcases Australian lifestyle that has been touched upon in Mary Gilmore’s poems. Microprint at different locations on the note reads excerpts from his poem ‘No Foe Shall Gather Our Harvest’. Portraits, colours and sizes have remained the same so that people are familiar with these new notes instantly.
The new $10 has a ‘tactile’ feature to help the vision-impaired identify the denomination of banknotes. The $5 banknote has one raised feature next to the top-to-bottom window while the $10 banknote has two bumps.
