2017-10-03 Tue

Finland will be issuing the nation’s second commemorative coin on 21st October. The 2017 €2 coin highlights Finland’s nature and belongs to the Finland 100 program which celebrates 100 years of Finland’s independence. It will be released at the Nature Photograph of the Year gala that will take place at the Finlandia Hall.

The obverse is designed based on a winning entry in the Blue and White special category of the Nature Photograph of the Year competition. The photograph taken by Kari Auvinen features the full moon over Harmaja and a crow looking down from its perch. The crow represents the modern Finnish character which is a common but intelligent bird that adapts to new situations.

The mintage limit of the 8.5 grams coin is set as 500,000 pieces with 11,000 Proof examples. Sale of coins would begin on 5th October through its website and delivery would start from 23rd October.

The ringed-bimetallic coin has a copper-nickel core and copper-aluminum-nickel ring. The outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag. A map of the European Union is depicted as the common reverse features.
