Gold Half Hoan of Farrukhsiyar

Farrukhsiyar's accession to the throne as a Mughal Emperor took place in 1713 AD with the help of Sayyid brothers, particularly Sayyid Hassan Ali Khan Barha, who was later chosen as the grand Wazir of the Mughal Emperor. He sat on the throne as the puppet of Sayyid brothers. Later on, when he opposed these two kingmakers, they imprisoned him, blinded him by needles and finally killed him.This gold half-Hoan which weighs around 1.4g, minted in tarpatri mint was issued by him during the 5th year of his reign was sold for INR 1,45,000 at Classical Numismatic Gallery Auction. The obverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Muhammad Farrukhsiyar’ and the reverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Zarb Tarpatri’.
Tarpatri is also known as Tadipatri, located in the Anantapur district of Andra Pradesh. It was an occasional mint of Mughal Empire during the decline of Mughal Empire. Coins minted by Farrukhsiyar with this mint are rare.
