Coins of Firuz Shah Zafar

Firuz Shah Zafar had ruled the Delhi Sultanate in the year 1389 AD. He was the ruler of Tughluq dynasty and sat on the throne after Tughluq Shah II. He ruled Delhi Sultanate for a very small period of time; hence the coins issued by him are rare.He had issued coins in gold, billon, and copper. Gold coins issued by him are rare and weigh around 10.8-11g. In billon coins, he introduced 64 rati denominations which are equal to 7.2g, other denominations like 5/6 tanka, 2/3 tanka, Half-tanka and 1/3 tanka were also issued in billon. Copper coins issued by him, weighing around 3.6g, are known as Falus.
This gold coin issued by him from the mint Hadrat Delhi was listed for INR 1, 00,000 to INR 1, 25,000 at Todywalla Auction held in Mumbai on 14th December 2014. The obverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Al Sultan Al-Azam Firuz Shah Zafar ibn Firuz Shah Al-Sultan’. The reverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Fi Zaman Al-Imam Amir Al-Muminin Abu Abd Allah Khulidat Khilafatuhu’.
