A new book called “Special Delivery” on America’s postal system and more was released in 2016. The book features many illustrated stories with black-and-white or colour photographs along with text. Subjects covered include rural mailboxes, letter carriers with dog bites, and love letters during wars etc. Many stamps are depicted on and off cover, along with postal cards and postcards depending upon the relevancy.

The book also talks about homing pigeons used in France, German post horns, and a report from America’s first postmaster general, Benjamin Franklin. It also talks about the increase in parcel deliveries due to online shopping.

Myers went along with her former letter carrier Mike Strick to take a closer look at Mail Delivery. Some post office photographs, post office murals and bas-relief sculptures from the 1930s from California to Rhode Island are also shown. Santa Claus mail, federal duck stamps, postal delivery vehicles used over the years, and “Dear John” letters are other topics that are discussed. Songs like Elvis Presley’s Return to Sender, and Please Mr. Postman are also mentioned in the book. The Pony Express is also talked about after the Railway Mail Service that operated for almost 100 years.
