Congressional Gold Medal for Filipino Veterans of World War II

The congressional gold medal celebrating Filipino Veterans of World War II will take place on 25th October in Emancipation Hall at the Capitol Visitor Centre. Filipino Veterans of World War II sacrificed their lives just like other members of the US Armed Forces.Over260,000 Filipinos gave their services on behalf of the US during WWII. Less than 16,000 of them are alive today. After the presentation event, the medal would be given to the Smithsonian Institution for display and research. The medal’s value could be $29,000 as per current market rates of the precious metal.
The medal will be composed of 99.95 percent gold minimum by weight. Approximate Thickness would be 0.275 inches; Approximate Diameter would be 3.0 inches; Approximate Weight would be 21.69 ounces.
The medal will be struck thrice at 350 to 375 metric tons of pressure per strike on an S & K Hydraulic Press with vertically oriented dies. The medal’s reverse will be struck using the hammer die while the obverse will be struck using the anvil die. Bronze versions will also be struck and sold to the public.
