2017-09-18 Mon
Scottsdale Mint released a Brilliant Uncirculated Deathstalker Scorpion 1-ounce .999 fine silver 500 francs CFA coin for Chad with a mintage limit of 50,000 pieces. The deathstalker scorpions live in extreme desert climates. It is active during the night time; stalks its prey and then attacks using a dark crevice. It then makes use of its pincers to weaken its victim and finally injects poison from a barbed venomous tail stinger. It has many sets of eyes; small hairs on their legs help detect vibrations in the ground.
The poison is a mix of neurotoxins and cardiotoxins, which can cause catastrophic heart and breathing issues. The scorpion’s sting can rarely kill a human, but it’s very painful.
Experts have discovered that its poison can be used to treat human cancer tumours since it contains chlorotoxin. It also has elements that can reduce effects of diabetes.
The reverse features a scorpion which is all set to strike in a sandy desert. The obverse features the seal of the Republic of Chad and the face value - 500 francs CFA.
